Metamorphism

Hello Smiling face

I have been pondering - dangerous, i know - about the metamorphic properties of concrete. What could they be? Could we see a host of new minerals?

I expect to experiment, would require high costs and extremely technical equipment, but would it be worth the experience?

What do you think?

Thanks,

Tom

What an interesting thought!

I'd imagine that what you'd get would be a matrix of sorts that might resemble some kind of gneiss, with inclusions of metamorphosed inclusions of the pebbles that were in the concrete...

It would depend on the composition of the concrete I suppose, and which pebbles you used! That sounds like a bit of a cop-out answer I know... maybe someone else will come up with something better!

Not a cop-out at all! It's something else to ponder on!

I've seen the metamorphosis of concrete in action many times in Cornwall. It's called mundic block. Your house falls down. Maybe it should be called concrite.

Sorry to put a damper on this discussion, but I'm pretty sure a whole load of investigation has been done into concrete, bricks etc - have a look at Concrete Petrography - A Handbook of Investigative Techniques by St. John, Poole and Sims. I can't remember about new minerals, however the way brick are fired rather than just the setting of concrete may produce more minerals - but again I'd reckon that this would have been done...

Yeah, just my luck that this has probably been done before! The same happened with my mass extinctions theory

Thanks,

Tom
