identifying these rocks

Hi,
I am hoping someone here can help me with this - what does one call this type of rock? (see links for pics)

When describing to my friends the areas I've been camping in I refer to this stuff as crumble rock, becuase I have no idea what else to call it. Can you help with this?

Thanks and regards,

Hi carvin5string,

Are you wanting to know the rock type or the kind of outcrop it occurs in? The rock looks like a sedimentary rock of some kind, but without a further description or photo, it's very difficult to tell.

If it's the kind of outcrop, then this is a scree slope.

Definitely scree, although when I saw the first two photos I thought it might be quarry waste. Type of rock? Crumble rock sounds like a sandstone.

Thanks for the replies. I'm not a rock-hound or anything like that, just a guy wondering what to call that broken-up rock I had to drive over.
Thanks.
