drilling into the inner core

Saw this idea on TV a few months ago, I think on Discovery, or something like that. Some guy and his team think it's possible to build a probe that won't melt inside the earth, and can be used to take samples of everything, including the core, to find out just what it all is.

This just sounds retarded to me. But a question it raised in me was.....even if you could, would you really want to? I mean is it possible that if you take a sample of the core, it messes things up down there? Like if the void from the sample would affect gravity or the radioactivity that fuels the earth itself? Granted we're talking about an insanely small amount when compared to the overall size of the core, but what do you think?
